Coordination Number (Samordningsnummer)

What does it mean?

A coordination number (samordningsnummer) is an identity number assigned to people who are not registered as residents in Sweden but need to be identified by Swedish authorities. It can be assigned by Skatteverket at the request of an authority, for example during an asylum application or when working temporarily in Sweden. The number looks like a personal number but with 60 added to the birth date.

For housing search, the coordination number has limitations. You cannot join public housing queues, and credit reporting agencies often have limited information linked to coordination numbers. Private landlords may accept it, however, especially in combination with other documents such as employer certificates and passports.

Key Points

  • Assigned to people not registered as residents but needing Swedish identification
  • Cannot be used to join public housing queues
  • Limited credit history — UC often has no data linked to the number
  • New coordination numbers (from 2023) have enhanced identity verification
  • Can be upgraded to a personal number upon population registration

Practical Tip

If you have a coordination number, focus on private landlords who accept alternative documentation. Prepare employer certificates, pay slips, and a bank statement from your home country. Bofrid can help verify your identity even with a coordination number.
